  • 1 large round loaf of crusty bread (sourdough recommended)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Cut the bread diagonally into slices about 1 inch apart without cutting all the way through.
  4. Rotate the loaf and make another set of diagonal cuts to create a crosshatch pattern.
