  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1¼ cups buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. Melt the chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth. Let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter, oil, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, alternating between them until just combined.
  7. Divide about half of the batter into another bowl and stir in melted chocolate.
  8. Alternately spoon vanilla and chocolate batters into prepared pans; swirl gently with a knife.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
