Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, rinsed
  • 2 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sweet and tangy BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the sliced sausage until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and toast the rinsed rice for 1-2 minutes while stirring frequently.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
  4. Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce. Mix well.
  5. Nestle the browned sausage back into the mixture.
  6. Bring to a simmer. Cover and reduce heat to low; cook for about 18-20 minutes until rice is tender.
  7. Remove from heat and let rest covered for an additional 5 minutes before fluffing the rice with a fork.
